WebTrends Web Analytics 8.5:
Gain Insight Faster, More Efficiently

Managing online campaigns can be complex and time consuming, even when you have the industry's most powerful analytics tools at your disposal. The less time and effort needed to uncover customer insights and market trends, the greater the chances of a successful campaign.

With the debut of WebTrends Web Analytics 8.5 fast approaching this summer, we wanted to provide a first look at how the newest version of the online marketing industry's most powerful analytics solution will help further tip the scales of success in your favor.

Available in both on-demand and traditional software versions, WebTrends Web Analytics 8.5 lets you generate more insight from your organization's online investments in less time and with less effort in the following ways:

Instant Web 2.0 insight. New pre-configured reports track and provide consistent data on key Web 2.0 technologies — including Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), Real Simple Syndication (RSS), streaming media and consumer-generated media (CGM) — right out of the box.
Calculate measures with a mouse. New calculated measures let marketers compare one type of visitor action or site data to another in real time by dragging and dropping them into columns within WebTrends reports. No longer is there a need to export data into Excel spreadsheets to perform many types of calculations.
New user roles and groups, less management. With new pre-configured roles, administrators can set permissions for users by group. User groups can be created and managed based on common attributes of WebTrends users.
No translation necessary. Broad support for four Asian languages — Japanese, Korean and simplified and traditional Chinese — is available within analytics reports.

Unclutter Metrics by Filtering Unnecessary IP Addresses

Are your web metrics distorted by IP addresses you wish you could exclude from your analytics data? WebTrends Analytics lets you filter IP addresses — such as those of your employees or channel partners — that interfere with accurate information about qualified visitors to your site. It's simple.

Marketing Execs Learn How to Improve SEM Results Over Lunch

Bank of America, Motorola, OfficeMax and State Farm were among the companies that learned new ways to maximize SEM results with minimal effort at the first in a series of WebTrends Dynamic Search Executive Luncheons.

In addition to the Hyatt Regency's impressive culinary offerings, WebTrends served up a heaping helping of expert advice on maximizing SEM results during the May 5 event in Chicago. Digital Advertising Sales Manager Shawn Gradek explained how dynamic optimization of keywords and other variables can dramatically enhance results in less time and with less effort than traditional methods.

Gradek demonstrated how WebTrends Dynamic Search analyzed the performance of one customer's unique keyword combinations more than 60 million times over 74 days, updating the company's bids on different keywords and combinations 434,550 times. If the company had tried to perform these tasks manually, they would have had to perform more than 5,800 bid changes each day — or roughly four every minute.

This main course was followed by plentiful discussion about the competitive advantages of dynamic optimization of a company's entire online portfolio, as well as how to turn the PPC traffic generated by keywords into site conversions. Topics also included strategies for aligning SEM portfolios with ROI goals and ways to capitalize on profitable keywords and ditch underperforming ones.

Guest speaker Jennifer Kielmeyer of Safelite® AutoGlass explained how WebTrends Dynamic Search has increased daily average click volume to the company's web site by 80 percent while decreasing the cost per order by 21 percent. "The results are clear, the heavy lifting has been accomplished, our audience has grown, and sales have increased," Kielmeyer says in a recent WebTrends Dynamic Search case study.

The luncheon earned high marks from the attendees, even those who weren't too familiar with the optimization features in WebTrends Dynamic Search.

Additional luncheons are planned in other cities around the United States over the next six months. The next one will be June 12 in New York, followed by one in Atlanta on July 10.

New Faces, New Directions:
A Report Card from eMetrics

This year eMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit in San Francisco provided WebTrends an opportunity to discuss some of the changes and new directions in the company and demonstrate the ongoing strength of our products and vision. And, as always, we listened to customers about how our offerings should continue to evolve and grow.

For those who missed eMetrics San Francisco, held May 4 to 7, here's what we took away from the show — apart from all of the free schwag:

Good news travels faster. There was no shortage of people who stopped by our booth to meet new WebTrends CEO Dan Stickel, who joined the company from Google in April. He got to personally meet and gather feedback from numerous customers, and share his insights on the future of online marketing and the role of analytics and measurement.
Dedication counts. As the number of Web marketing optimization offerings grows, companies want to know that their technology provider will be responsive to their needs after they install the software or begin using the services. Stickel was pleased to hear from customers at eMetrics that WebTrends is passing this all-important test. "People went out of their way to tell me how responsive our tech support is, and what a great relationship they have with their sales rep," he says. "These customers made it clear that our people care, are passionate about their work and go the extra mile for them."
Web 2.0 buzz keeps building. The newest version of WebTrends Web Analytics should receive a warm welcome from the many people at eMetrics who were looking for more and better ways to utilize social networking and other Web 2.0 technologies in their online marketing campaigns. As noted in this newsletter's lead article , Web Analytics 8.5 offers pre-loaded reports that provide consistent data on key Web 2.0 technologies right out of the box.
Happy customers: the best salespeople. There was grumbling in the blogosphere about a few of the eMetrics presentations being too "salesy." The opposite approach proved much more appealing to show attendees when Shawn Gradek, WebTrends manager of Digital Marketing Sales, struck up an impromptu conversation with folks from ShopNBC, Fujitsu and other WebTrends Dynamic Search customers in the WebTrends booth. As they spoke about the product's performance and the results they've seen, other visitors began listening in. "Those happy customers," Gradek says, "did a better job of selling our products than I ever could."
